Grd. 1: Meaningful Sculptures

Students worked on the skill of pulling out the clay. They were asked to think of a person in their life and turn them into an animal. Students had to be careful to pull out clay parts so their sculpture would stay strong and stand up on its own.

Grd. 3 Inner Self-Portrait Books

Today we wrapped our book covers. It was exciting and to celebrate we listened to the song happy and had a mini dance party at the start of class. Students were challenged to create an abstract design for the front and back cover of their books. They got very inventive with different techniques and tools as you can see below. Next week we will attach our covers and begin writing an artists statement.

Grd. 4: Drawing Our Meaningful Sculptures from Observation

Students thought about how paying attention to the line and shape relationships can help get down an accurate drawing. Soon we will paint our sculptures from observation.

Pinch Pots!

Students learned that artists use pinching as a technique to build with clay. They also learned the difference between sculpture and other art forms. Once finished, students carefully and slowly made a drawing of their pot from observation. Some even added texture to their pot with a stick.

Grd. 2 Stitching

Students learned that artists use different types of materials to draw with. It was lots of fun stitching designs and pictures with yarn. Some finished early and created a border around their stitching design with markers.

Grd. 5 Altered Books Studio Day #2

In this class students had to choose a big idea or something they are really interested in to make art about in their altered books. Towards the end of class they wrote a reflection about it on a post-it note.
