Grade K Self-Portraits

Grade K Stapleton Elementary School students did a great job with these self-portraits.  We made these close to Halloween so some students decided to give themselves crazy colored hair.  Once finished they decorated their frames with ripped paper.  Students made sure to make Goldilocks proud by using the "just right" amount of glue.

Grade 3: Inner Self-Portrait Books

Students started by thinking about how and why an artist might use inventive color.  They then began to paint their accordion books using their own inventive color.  Some students mixed colors directly on their paper while other used their mixing tray.  They used colors they thought best represented their inner self.

Stapleton Artwork Done at Home...

Here is some artwork kids at Stapleton Elementary are working on at home...

Extra Art: Collaboration With Mrs. McLoughlins Class

Today Mrs. McLoughlin brought her class to Extra Art.  We read a book called In November, made artwork about it, and wrote about how our artwork connects to the book.

Photos taken by Carlos, one of our students.  He did a great job holding the camera steady while getting close up shots.

Grade 3 Textured Paper Collage

Students were inspired by the artwork of Eric Carle for this project. They also thought about what reasons different artists have for making artwork. Once finished students wrote a story about their curious creature.

Grade 2 Bird Collage

Grade 2 students thought about how artists use nontraditional or unusual materials and techniques while making artwork. They painted onto book pages and then used the paper to make the birds. To make the trees students blew liquid watercolor paint through a straw.
